ThermTec Ventus 635L Thermal Imaging Binoculars
ThermTec Ventus 635L
The Ventus 635L from ThermTec is a multispectral thermal imaging binocularsThis means: two eyepieces, an image impression like with binoculars. The Ventus 635L offers this immediately. three channels in a device. There is a Daylight channel, a Infrared channel for close range and one Thermal imaging channelThe infrared channel works in conjunction with an integrated IR emitter. The sensor has a resolution of 640×512 pixels. and reaches a heat sensitivity of less than 15 millikelvinThe field of view is . at 100 meters 21,9 meters wide. The power supply is provided by standard commercially available devices. 21650 batteries, which are inserted crosswise and are easy to change even in the dark.
Who is the Ventus 635L suitable for?
Very suitable
Very suitable
Conditionally suitable
Very suitable
The Ventus 635L is not suitable for driven hunts, battues, or tracking wounded game. Both eyes are occupied by the binoculars. A free, unblinded eye is not available for safe walking in twilight. For blood tracking and tracking, we recommend a handheld or clip-on device.
NEW: Dual IR emitter with 850 and 930 nanometers
The integrated IR emitter of the Ventus 635L operates in two wavelengths: 850 nm and 930 nmThis is a first for thermal imaging binoculars. With 850 nanometers The spotlight delivers more power and range at close range. However, it produces a visible glow that might attract scrupulous eyes. Wild can be frightening. 930 nanometers is the right choice when it comes to redwild and other shy animals – the glow is for the Wild barely noticeable.
Sensor and image quality – 640×512 with < 15 mK
The Ventus 635L operates with a 640×512 pixel resolution thermal imaging sensorThe heat sensitivity is... less than 15 millikelvin (NETD)The Ventus 635L is therefore among the top-class thermal imaging binoculars currently available. It can detect even the smallest temperature differences between Wild The surroundings are clearly displayed. This ensures accurate identification from the hunting stand, even in rain, fog, and humid conditions.
Optics and ergonomics – three channels, two focus rings, one dial
The Ventus 635L features two separate focus rings – one per tube. One focuses on the daylight channel, the other on the thermal imaging channel. The different modes can be conveniently switched via a large rotary knob um. The The daylight and infrared channels are image stabilized. The image stabilization works in three stepsThis is especially helpful at higher zoom levels to keep the image steady. Field of view of 21,9 meters at 100 meters This is typical for a 35mm lens. In our experience, it's a good compromise for field and forest terrain.
The wide field of vision of 21,9 m at 100 m sufficient to keep an eye on an entire group at once or on changing animals. Wild to detect early. That's a real advantage when hunting from a hide.
Battery concept – 21650 batteries, can be inserted crosswise
The Ventus 635L relies on standard 21650 batteriesThese batteries are readily available and inexpensive. Replacements are therefore not a problem. The fact that they are particularly convenient is... crosswise insertion methodThe polarity of the individual slots is freely selectable – the only important thing is that the batteries are inserted with reversed polarity. This also works with absolute darkness without difficulty. The The 21650 battery type offers more capacity. as classic 18650 batteries.
We extensively tested the Ventus 635L in the field. You can find the full test report here: ThermTec Ventus 635L – our practical test.
Our conclusion on the Ventus 635L
The Ventus 635L really surprised me. For a binocular, the device is pleasant to use. compact built. The Field of view of 22 meters at 100 meters It's also really noticeable in the forest – you have enough of an overview despite short distances.
I especially liked the handholdsThe device fits perfectly in the hand. Also, the surface finish It's a success; the whole thing makes a really high-quality impression.
The controls are the best I've ever experienced with a binocular microscope. Two rotary knobs to focus the two channels, plus a third one in the middle for zoom – so everything is within easy reach without having to search.
A special feature: the detachable IR illuminator (as seen in the picture). This can also be adjusted between 850nm and 940nm (especially for red).wildThey can be switched on and off, or even removed. A very good solution.
Those who spend more time in the field during their hunting season should consider the larger sister model. ThermTec Ventus 650L watch. With 50mm lens and significantly more detection range It plays to its strengths over long distances.
