New feature: Shutterless calibration
Conventional thermal imaging devices calibrate using a mechanical shutter. The image freezes for up to two seconds during this process. The HOGSEEKER 650 LRF works differently. Its shutterless system calibrates only three times during the first few minutes of operation. The image briefly brightens during these calibrations – a short moment, not a freeze-frame. Afterward, the calibration repeats almost silently every 10 minutes . This difference is noticeable when hunting from a high seat, especially when a sounder of wild boar silently emerges from the woods.
Sensor and image quality – clear response in darkness and rain
The VOx detector with 640×512 pixels and a pixel spacing of 12 um is the core of the HOGSEEKER 650 LRF. A NETD value of ≤15 mK This means the sensor detects even the smallest temperature differences. A sow in the rain, Wild Behind damp undergrowth, some distance away in the fog – the image remains clear. 60 Hz refresh rate ensures that fast-moving blackwild It appears without streaks on the display. OLED display with 1920×1080 pixels The 0,49-inch screen displays a high-contrast and sharp image. The device is suitable for eyeglass wearers with an eye relief of... 1–8 cm adjusted. The full field of vision is maintained.
Optics and range – laser rangefinder up to 1.000 m
The 50mm lens with an f/0,9 aperture generates a lot of heat on the sensor. The optical magnification is 2,5x . The digital zoom ranges from 1x to 8x , resulting in an effective magnification of 2,5x to 20x . This allows for clear identification of game in a field, even at long distances. The detection range is 2.600 m . The field of view at 100 m measures 15,4 × 12,2 m . The integrated laser rangefinder measures up to 1.000 m . Knowing the exact distance to the game is not a luxury, it's essential for shooting safety. Anyone who hunts in open fields knows that distances are almost always underestimated. The LRF eliminates this risk.
Recording and operation – shot recording and intuitive control
The HOGSEEKER 650 LRF records photos and videos to 64 GB of internal memory . The connection to the app is wireless. Software updates are installed directly via the app – no laptop, no USB cable required. JSA Night-Lux has thoughtfully placed the controls. A large scroll wheel for menu navigation, a dedicated confirmation button, and separate photo and video buttons. The controls are spaced far enough apart to ensure you can easily grab the right one, even with gloves on. In complete darkness while hunting from a hide, this isn't a minor detail – it's an everyday occurrence.
Battery and robustness – 5 hours runtime with replaceable battery
The replaceable 18650 battery lasts up to 5 hours . A second battery in your pocket – and the night is yours. The housing has an IP67 rating . The HOGSEEKER 650 LRF withstands rain, mud, and splashes of water without complaint. Additionally, the device is shockproof up to 1.000 G. With dimensions of 215 × 91 × 70 mm and a weight of 675 g , it's a compact unit for stalking. JSA Night-Lux offers a 3-year manufacturer's warranty . Their in-house service department ensures prompt assistance in case of repairs.
My assessment of the HOGSEEKER 650 LRF:

The HOGSEEKER 650 LRF is a handheld device that I immediately took seriously. The 60 Hz sensor with shutterless calibration is a real asset in everyday use while hunting from a blind. No hard freezes, no clicking – the image simply scrolls through. Anyone who has ever lost a group of wild boar at the crucial moment because the shutter triggered knows exactly what I'm talking about.
The laser rangefinder is the strongest selling point of this device for me. I'm often out in the fields and know the problem: the boar is standing sideways, the shot would be good – but how far away is it? At 675 grams and with a replaceable battery , the HOGSEEKER 650 LRF is a reliable choice for long nights.
Are there any downsides? The battery life of 5 hours is solid, but not exceptional. Anyone planning long nights should pack a second 18650 battery. The field of view of 15,4 × 12,2 m at 100 m is ideal for open fields – in dense forest, I would opt for a device with a shorter focal length. However, these aren't weaknesses, but rather clear strengths of a device that knows exactly who it was built for.
