CQ50L 2.0 thermal imaging camera: new features and characteristics
HIKmicro Condor CQ50L 2.0
The HIKmicro Condor The CQ50L 2.0 is a handheld thermal imaging device for hunting from a hide and stalking at long distances. 640×512 sensor solves with a thermal sensitivity of below 15 mK NETD This is particularly noticeable in humid air and light fog. 1920×1080 OLED display It remains razor-sharp, regardless of whether it's used in a round or rectangular shape. The whole thing is supported by a Magnesium housing with 537 grams weight and a Exchangeable battery system It uses standard 21700 batteries. An integrated laser rangefinder with a range of up to 1000 meters is also included as standard.
Who is the HIKmicro suitable for? Condor CQ50L 2.0?
Those who spend most of their time in the narrow confines of the forest will find the HIKmicro Condor CQ35L 2.0 the more suitable alternative. The 35mm lens opens up a field of view of approximately 22 meters at 100 meters – significantly wider than the CQ50L 2.0 and therefore better suited for short distances between branches and thickets.
The device calibrates itself in the background without freezing the image. In practice, this means no more brief image interruptions at the crucial moment when the boar is standing sideways.
HIKmicro relies on Condor Version 2.0 uses the same 21700 batteries as are commonly found in flashlights. A second battery is included and can be swapped in seconds – even with cold fingers in a hunting blind.
Sensor and image quality – clear response in darkness and rain
The 640×512 sensor with below 15 mK NETD It is among the most sensitive sensors in its class. It detects minute temperature differences. Wild They remain recognizable even in bad weather. In test shots at 16°C and 73% humidity, the image remained significantly clearer than with devices with a higher NETD value. OLED display with 1920×1080 pixels It reproduces these details without loss, even when using digital zoom with Zoom Pro enabled.
Optics and rangefinder – detection range up to 2600 meters
The 50mm lens with an f/0,9 aperture provides a detection range of up to 2600 meters . The laser rangefinder measures distances up to 1000 meters with an accuracy of ±1 meter . This proves invaluable when stalking game in open fields: you no longer have to estimate the distance to the animal, but know it down to the meter. However, there is a trade-off – the base magnification of 2,7x results in a narrower field of view than devices with lower base magnification. This requires a bit more patience and practice when scanning quickly in dense undergrowth, but in open terrain, it's precisely this feature that makes it advantageous for recognizing details at a distance.
Those who frequently hunt in wooded areas or mixed hunting grounds with narrow lanes should take the narrower field of view into account and consciously move more slowly when panning. In open fields or when hunting from a stand at long distances, however, the lens truly shines.
Recording and operation – One-handed operation via the focus wheel
Focusing is achieved via a wheel on the rear control panel, allowing the device to be operated entirely with one hand. 64 GB memory records video and photos directly on the device, and uses the Wi-Fi function. 2,4 / 5 GHz It then transmits the data to the mobile phone. When connected to a tablet via 5 GHz, the image is displayed virtually without delay – an advantage over older 2,4 GHz devices, where stuttering and dropouts in the live image are not uncommon. Hot Track automatically highlights heat sources on the display, thus making it easier to track fleeing objects. Wild.
For transmission to a tablet in the vehicle or at the feeding station, the 5 GHz connection is recommended. In practice, it is significantly more stable than 2,4 GHz and delivers an image that is almost indistinguishable from looking through the eyepiece.
Battery life and robustness – over 6,5 hours of continuous use in the field
The 21700 replaceable battery lasts at least 6,5 hours in continuous operation – even with Wi-Fi, Zoom Pro, and the rangefinder running. The magnesium housing weighs only 537 grams and is IP67- rated for dust resistance and temporary immersion. The device remains operational from -30°C to 55°C, even in the rain while hunting from a blind.
My conclusion on the HIKmicro Condor CQ50L 2.0
The Camcorder shape is CondorThe -series appeals to me more than the classic teardrop shape of many other devices. CQ35L had already convinced me in the test, with the CQ50L HIKmicro goes a step further. With similar dimensions, this achieves... 50mm lens In the field, it delivers significantly more power – over long distances, the device is simply impressive.
The keypad is the case for both Condor-devices feel very pleasant under the fingers. I like the Integrated focus ring – no more bulky wheel on the lens, but rather controls that simply feel right.
For those who are predominantly out in open fields and target at long distances , the CQ50L 2.0 is currently one of my favorite devices in the range.
