What is a digital night vision device?

Digital night vision devices enable seeing in darkness or twilight, but not using a cathode ray tube like traditional CRT devices; instead, they use a highly sensitive photosensor. Their operation is similar to that of a surveillance camera: the device converts the infrared light from the environment into a digital image, which is then displayed on a screen.

This amount is nowhere near sufficient for either tube-based or comparable thermal imaging devices. Usable devices for discerning hunters who want to stay in the lower price range cost between €1.500 and €2.000. With these, you can easily identify game at distances of up to 200 meters at night (under good conditions) and rely on a high-contrast and interference-free image.

It's generally recommended to familiarize yourself with digital technology and make a comparison before deciding between a digital and a CRT television.
